Media Center

What is Plex?

Plex is a free digital media platform useful for organizing and maintaining collections of movies, TV shows, music, pictures, etc. With Plex, you keep your collections on a server which can be named whatever you want - this one is called OLYMPUS. The company provides a streaming service that allows you to watch content from your server on nearly any device. You can also choose to share your server with other Plex users so that anyone with access can stream the content from their devices. So in a sense, Plex is a lot like Netflix, but instead of streaming their licensed media, you're just streaming your own and can share it with whoever you want.

What is Plex Picks?

Plex Picks is a website made using an open source application called Ombi. Primarily, it lets you request new content for the Plex media server. Approved content will automatically get added and you'll receive email notifications with the request details as it processes through the system. Once content is available on Plex, you can login and watch it on the OLYMPUS server. This website is also useful for reporting issues with my existing Movies and TV Shows.

What is Tautulli?

Tautulli is a 3rd party application that runs alongside Plex to monitor activity and track various statistics. This information helps keep the entire system running smoothly. It also allows for the generation of the weekly "Recently Added" emails and controls user streaming sessions if they are putting unnecessary stress on my server.

What is UptimeRobot?

UptimeRobot is a free tool used to monitor the status of various websites. It's configured to check each of the various websites associated with the OLYMPUS server and alerts the admin if any of them go offline.

Plex Picks

How is Plex Picks different from Plex and why should I use it?

Plex Picks is an app that gives you the ability to request new content for the OLYMPUS Plex server. It's like a wish list for movies and TV shows that you want to see; just look up the ones you want and submit the requests. You should use Plex Picks when you want to watch something that's not currently on Plex.

How do I make requests?

How do I manage my requests?

*Requests will fall off the list once they're available on Plex

How will I know when my request is available on Plex?

You should receive the following emails during the request process:

The “Request Approved/Declined” email will be sent once the request is reviewed. The "Request Available" email will arrive once the Movie/TV show is live on the OLYMPUS server.

Why are my requests taking so long?

Plex Picks waits until movies are released as either Screeners or DVDs/Digital before it tries to process the request. It also has to wait for TV show episodes to air before trying to process any of those. Once content qualifies for processing, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days before it will be available on Plex. If you feel like a specific request is taking longer than expected, please report an Issue and select the "Availability" category as described below.

How do I report an Issue?

What do the Issue Categories mean?

How will I know when my Issue is updated or resolved?

You should receive the following emails during the issue process:

The "Issue" email is generated when you report it. Keep an eye out for "Issue Comment" emails as those indicate I made an update that needs your review (instructions below). Once the admin figures out what's wrong, and gets the content working again, you'll get the "Issue Resolved" email.
