Quality Settings

Plex sets the default streaming video quality at 720p for all devices, even if the video files are 1080p. This is done to ensure compatibility with the vast majority of devices across the board; however, taking  1080p video and converting (aka transcoding) it down to 720p impacts picture quality and is tough on the Plex server streaming the media. 

Adjusting the Plex quality settings to play 1080p content by default is recommended. Please click on the type of streaming device you're using below to see how to change its respective settings:
